John DeMott
According to a cover story in Art of the West, "John DeMott is best known for his historical realism, particularly his depictions of Indians of the Northern Plains - the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Blackfoot - from the 1850s to the turn of the century. He also paints cowboys, trappers and hunters, wildlife, and western landscapes." Born in 1954 and raised in southern California, DeMott grew up drawing and hanging around cowboys and ranch hands. From his home in Loveland, Colorado, he enjoys nothing more than going into nature and gathering information for paintings. DeMott makes the viewer aware of a particular time and place, be it last fall's elk hunt or a frontiersman from an era that is long gone.
